Our Wedding
Battle Wounds
Andrew had knee surgery on January 13th. He had torn his ACL during a football game in October of 2008. However, the incompetent doctor told us it was just a severe sprain, so Andrew had just been taking it easy, and trying to let his knee slowly mend. Thanksgiving of 2009 Andrew re-injured his knee (tearing his meniscus and lateral ligaments) and we finally went to a different Orthopedic Doctor. After an MRI and XRays not only had andrew torn every ligament in his knee, his ACL was completely dissolved! Andrew needed 3 different procedures to fix his knee, and Carilion only provided 1 of those surgeries. Roanoke Ortho Center said they wouldn't be able to see Andrew until February! We decided to head to NC to an Ortho my mom recommended. Dr. Graves saw Andrew the day after Christmas and scheduled the surgery for 3 weeks later! Dr.Graves was able to reconstruct Andrew's knee using Andrew's patellar tendon. This allows Andrew a stronger knee and a better recovery versus surgery with a cadaver.
The surgery went well and today Andrew is almost back to 100%. It had been killing him that he has not been able to play sports or be active, but he has been patient knowing that this has all been in God's hands, plus he's got a pretty awesome scar!
